Student activists from Germany, France, Austria, UK [suggestion Tom from AEiP steering com?] and Italy share their experiences of struggle against the Europe-wide attacks on education and movements against the massacre of Gaza.

14:00 – 15:30 Where next for the student movement?
After the implosion of NUS democracy, the Gaza occupations and in the midst of deep global economic crisis we discuss how to build a new, fighting student movement. What issues should must we fight on? How should we organise? What’s the next step?

15:30 – 16:30 Workshops: Ideas and debates in our movement
Workshop 1: How can we win liberation?
Do we need a party? What kind of politics? Marxism, Anarchism or other? A debate between different traditions
Workshop 2: From Gaza to Afghanistan: the politics of imperialism
How can we develop the fightback after the Gaza occupation movement? The fight to defend democratic rights, oppose racism and future wars. What attitude to the new Obama regime should we have? Where do we go from here?
Workshop 3: Workers’ struggles and the student movement
An activist from the London Living wage campaign talks about how students and workers can build links. We discuss what the crisis means for student-worker solidarity.
16:45 – 17:45 Building campaigns and activism on campuses
What have we learnt from the occupation movement? How can we build campaigns? The bread and butter of student activism explained/discussed.
